What is Dedicated Hosting?
When we talk about web hosting servers, there are three principal varieties - shared web hosting web servers, VPS (private virtual web servers) and dedicated hosting servers. Shared hosting web servers host plenty of clients and thus the system resources per hosting account are limited, virtual private server plans offer more server configuration independence, but also affect other VPSs on the hardware node if used heedlessly, and dedicated servers give you the freedom to perform everything you decide without interfering with anyone else.
Why would you require a dedicated hosting server?
Dedicated servers are generally much more high-priced than shared hosting web servers or VPSs. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The reply is very simple. If your company has a high resource-absorbing site, or just has very explicit web server architecture requirements, the best option would be a dedicated server. For someone who is inclined to invest in safety and stability, the higher price is not a concern. You are granted full root-level access and can utilize 100 percent of the server's system resources without anyone else using these resources and intervening with your web portals.
Hardware architectures
Most shared hosting distributors, incl. us at Host Magi, offer several hardware configurations you can pick from in consonance with your necessities. The hardware configurations include different varieties of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM and server disk drive sizes and different monthly bandwidth quotas. You can pick a web hosting CP, which is useful software if you want to use the web hosting server for hosting purposes solely and choose not to use a Secure Shell terminal for all the modifications you will be making. We offer three types of Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.
The web hosting Control Panel of your preference
If you are a self-reliant Linux OS user (our hosting servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could manage your dedicated server through an SSH connection only. That, though, could be awkward, particularly if you wish to give complete server root access to someone else who has less technical expertise than yourself. This is why having Control Panel software pre-activated is an excellent idea. The Hepsia hosting CP user interface that we offer does not offer complete root access and is mostly suitable for someone who runs numerous web sites that require a lot of system resources, but desires to administer the web sites, databases and email mailboxes via an intuitive web hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, give you full root access and have 3 access levels - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell web hosting accounts rather than using the hosting server solely for yourself, you should pick one of these two.
Server monitoring and backup procedures
Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated hosting server and of backing it up. In the event of a problem with your dedicated web hosting server, such as an unresponsive Apache or a network outage, it is good to have some kind of monitoring system activated. Here at Host Magi the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated hosting server as well. Backups are also an additional feature - the web hosting vendor offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could choose a kind of RAID that would permit you to store the very same data on two disk drives as a precaution in the event of a server disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted root-level access erases something by mistake.
